the 30 day nonhuman challenge

 i intended to start this a while ago, but i've only just gotten around to making a post, so here's how i'll run it: 15 answers for days 1-15 now, 15 answers for days 16-30 on the 30th, way after the winter solstice and christmas and chanukah and right before the start of the new year. i'll be using this list, and i'll probably start on the fictionkind challenge and the otherkin challenge in january!

1. What is your species?
theriotypes: wolf - coastal, grey, and sabre-toothed, to be more precise - husky, and golden tiger
hearttypes: cat, dragon
otherkin kintypes: werewolf
 

2. Are you out? To whom?
i am! i'm out to several of my irls and my girlfriend (internetspacegirl)!
 

3. How old were you when you realized you were not human? What made you realize it?
i think i'd always known, but when i was 14 i came to terms with being autistic and i think that's what really set the ball rolling for me. realising that there was a reason that i never seemed to be able to act 'human' enough for neurotypicals was a long process, but after seeing a few alterhumans talk about their experiences in more depth in a discord server, i did a little research and it was like a light had switched on in my brain for the second time. to be clear, i don't think my autism can be explained away by my alterhumanity; i think they feed into each other.
 

4. Do you identify as a part of the “otherkin”, or, “therian” community? What communities do you identify with?
i identify as part of both, as well as part of the larger alterhuman community!
 

5. Tell the story of the first person you came out to.
it wasn't so much a coming out as 'bringing up that i was questioning with another alterhuman individual i knew', but it went super well! we talked a bit about questioning and the ties between neurodivergency and alterhumanity, which was comforting - i didn't know that other people felt the same way!
 

6. Have you faced any abuse because of identifying not human?
not that i can recall? i haven't been too active in nonhuman spaces though
 

7. Do you have a favorite non-human character?
idk if catra counts or not but <333 catra my beloved
 

8. Do you believe there should be non-human pride? What do you imagine it being like?
ngl i imagine it would be very similar or heavily tied into pride month? and i honestly think i would prefer that - i like the idea of alterhumanity as inherently queer and i think it'd be nice :]
 

9. What does being not human mean to you?
simple answer: autism

10. What have other people said about your non-human nature?
most people have been great once i've explained it to them!
 

11. If you’re out, talk about the most accepting person you’ve come out to. If you’re not out, talk about what you would hope a coming out experience would be like.
an irl of mine told me how cool it was that i was 'kin + how they questioned for a while, which was really cool to hear! it's nice to know that there are people around you that have had similar experiences!
 

12. Your favorite non-human Tumblr site.
this is a hard question! i'm enjoying a-dragons-journal a lot; it has some really great and thoughtful discussions of alterhumanity!
 

13. Your favorite non-human website.
this is also a hard question! i really like three dragons and a dog, but there are a few others i haven't been all the way through yet that are pretty solid contenders!
 

14. Tell us about a time you met another non-human, whether in real life or online.
one of my best friends irl is nonhuman! we make obscure otherkin jokes over the lunch table that on one else gets and it's fun :]
 

15. Your favorite non-human celebrity/person.
i don't know people in the community to well yet but i like PD's videos a lot if that's anything!
